From the tennis legend to the inventor who changed the entire fashion industry

René Lacoste, the inventor of the brand, won his first tennis competition at the age of 17. With his team-mate, he made a bet during a walk in Boston. Should Lacoste win his next game, he would get an alligator suitcase from his colleague. Unfortunately, he lost the game, but Lacoste won a nickname. Journalists called him from now on the nickname Alligator, also because of his enormous strength and performance, which he showed during his tennis competitions. Then he asked a friend to create a logo from the alligator (colloquially crocodile). René Lacoste was the first to wear it on his blazer. When he introduced short-sleeved T-shirts to tennis, in order to ensure more freedom of movement, the Poloshirt was born, which of course also had its crocodile logo. This was the starting point for many other products launched by Lacoste. From tennis shoes, sportswear, team uniforms, jackets, perfumes, clothes, to bags, wallet and much more, Lacoste became a brand that not only turned the sports sector upside down. Lacoste, the sporty luxury brand, has also become an very important part of the fashion industry.
