      Paul Boéchat founded the Wenger company in 1893, at that time it had the name Paul Boéchat & Cie. The original headquarter was placed in the community of Courtételle in the swiss Canton Jura. A group of investors bought the company in 1895 and called it Fabrique Suisse de coutellerie S.A. After a fusion in the year 1900 the company was known as Swiss cutlery factory. At the same time the headquarter was moved to Delémont where it is set until today. In 1901 the company started to sell the Swiss army knifes. Theo Wenger who was the director since 1898 gave the brand his name a few years later. The company developed worldwide and in 1922 it got the name it has today: Wenger S.A.

      Wenger has a success-story that lasted for over 100 years. But after 9/11 the security standards in planes became much higher- a neck-breaker for the pocket knife production. Wenger tried to focus on bags and trolleys but too much money was already lost. To prevent the company form a loss of image by being sold to foreign investors the former competitor Victorinox bought Wenger in 2005. Despite that takeover Wenger remained a label on its own and is independent in the development, production and marketing of its SwissGear bags, trolleys and suitcases. From outside Wenger and Victorinox still seem to be competing manufacturers of knifes and bags.
