    Sustainability and philosophy of Patagonia

    Patagonia defines itself as an activist company: the US-based brand is one of the pioneers of environmentally friendly production. In addition to sustainability, functionality and reparability play a key role, whether it is a Patagonia daypack or a Patagonia trolley. Patagonia bags and backpacks are durable and therefore particularly environmentally friendly. Pragmatic minimalism and sporty design characterise all products of the outdoor label.

    The company has been using organic cotton since the mid-1990s! Avoiding chemicals improves soil quality and promotes biodiversity in the affected regions. Other materials such as nylon or polyester are sourced from sustainable production or recycled materials, such as plastic bottles.


    Discover Patagonia’s charitable initiatives, such as the current campaign against industrial salmon farming in Iceland, which advocates for a ban on open-net salmon farms along the Icelandic coast. Once again, the brand demonstrates that sustainability and nature conservation are deeply rooted in its corporate philosophy – far beyond functional outdoor equipment.

    Patagonia bags and backpacks

    The outdoor brand offers not only functional backpacks and bags but also models suitable for everyday use and travel accessories. Whether for outdoor activities, daily use or travel, all Patagonia items are unisex in design. Many models can be stored compactly in their own packing bag. Technical backpacks impress with their functional design: hiking backpacks feature holders for poles and equipment, as well as a hydration system compartment. Standard features such as hip and chest straps, wide ergonomic shoulder straps and mesh backs are also part of the equipment. There are also outdoor models specially designed for the female anatomy.

    Patagonia daypacks have a capacity of 20 to 30 litres and combine their sleek design with practical features such as elastic front lacing, padded laptop compartments or compression straps. They often come with ventilated backs and breathable S-shaped shoulder straps. Patagonia hip bags are versatile and can be worn on the hip, over the shoulder or diagonally across the chest. Hybrid bags with backpack functionality allow various carrying options and are often designed in a classic shopper shape with stowable backpack straps.

    Travel backpacks offer multiple carrying options thanks to side handles, detachable shoulder straps and stowable backpack straps. Models with a capacity of 45 litres often feature a trolley strap, while larger travel bags offer between 55 and 120 litres of space. These are equipped with reinforced handles, daisy chains and padded shoulder straps. Smaller options like the Patagonia trolley, with a 40-litre capacity, are equipped with a telescopic handle, reinforced back panel and water-repellent material. Most Patagonia products are made from water-resistant fabrics, with some series being fully waterproof.

    The history of the outdoor brand

    The Californian brand originated from a small company specialising in climbing equipment. Its founder, Yvon Chouinard, an enthusiastic climber and outdoor sportsman, replaced traditional climbing hooks with gentle, mobile chocks. As mountaineering gained popularity, this change helped prevent irreversible damage to countless rocks, marking the first step towards sustainability.

    Since the 1970s, Patagonia has been a pioneer in sustainable production and continues to set new standards in the outdoor industry today. In addition to outdoor clothing and accessories for mountain sports like climbing and snowboarding, the brand offers equipment and apparel for surfing, trail running, mountain biking and more. Whether it's a Patagonia hiking backpack, trolley or daypack, every product is crafted with excellent workmanship, environmentally friendly production methods and functional features.
