Adax designs are carefully thought out down to the smallest detail. All rivets and buckles feature the Adax logo or characteristic bird and the colour of the yarn used is perfectly matched to the material. Each of the up to 200 pieces of a handbag is precisely cut by hand or with small machines, carefully fitted and sewn. During this process, care is taken to ensure that as little leather as possible is left over as a contribution to sustainability.
This precision is reflected not only in the design, but also in the functionality of the bag. It is important for Adax to create handbags that are also practical. That's why all bags have many inner compartments, whose well thought-out arrangement puts everything within easy reach. The extra-long handle drop also contributes to the bag's suitability for everyday use, making it comfortable to wear even with a thick winter coat.
Sustainability and social responsibility
Adax's ethical corporate philosophy is paramount. Giving its best and doing the right thing is more important to Adax than being the cheapest handbag producer at all costs. That is why the cooperation and relationship with the Indian production partners, with whom Adax has been working for over 19 years, is marked by sustainability and social responsibility. For Adax A/S, this means not only abandoning child labour as a matter of course, but also supporting their producers by providing health insurance for factory workers and school fees for their children. In addition, Adax has ensured certified safety conditions, maintains midday and Sunday rest and provides workers with space to practise their religion. Over the years, this cooperation has enabled Adax to develop the know-how in the factories to produce high-quality handbags.
The high production quality also includes using only high quality calfskin from Italy, India and North America or sheepskin from New Zealand. Adax refrains from using split leather and only uses full-grain leather, which creates a particularly natural look for the bags and makes the product more durable. As a contribution to sustainability, Adax ensures that only leather that falls off during meat production is used in its handbags, so no animals are killed just for leather. Adax also attaches importance to animal welfare and good cattle care. The scratches and scars caused by poor animal husbandry are clearly visible on the leather and let the quality and longevity suffer.

The Adax brand
With a low starting capital from his savings and a vision in mind to create handbags that were better than other products on the market, Eugen Silfen founded the bag label Adax in 1982. In search of a suitable brand name, the trained history teacher made his way to the library, where he searched for words that could stand for the brand he dreamed of. Since he found nothing of the kind, he created the word Adax himself, which should stand for high quality and the will to be at the forefront. The theme of freedom and following one's dreams is also one of Adax's motifs and can be found in the logo, a stylized bird drawn by a fellow designer of Silfen.
Since Silfen designed his new collections in a cellar in Copenhagen and travelled through Denmark to introduce his collections to selected bag dealers, much time has passed and Adax has become a successful international company. With a mixture of courage, curiosity and a good portion of perseverance, Silfen gradually established close relationships with the retailers and, together with them, built up the distribution of his bags.
