The luxury label Escada has been founded in Munich in 1978 by Margaretha and Wolfgang Ley. Margaretha who came from Sweden had experiences as a mannequin but she was a certificated tailor as well. Since then super models like Naomi Campbell or Claudia Schiffer represented Escada on the catwalks worldwide. It was an important goal to Escada to “democratise” haute couture by offering luxury clothes with comparatively affordable prices. Further Escada did not insist that the label’s fans had to buy completely new outfits every season. Escada bags, clothes and accessories are created in a way that fits to the clothes of the last season as well. In the 1980th and in the early 1990th the company was one of the most successful manufacturers of bags. After Margaretha Ley’s death in 1992 Brian Rennie became the creative executive. The new company management keeps the label Escada as a successful luxury brand.
