Manu Atelier is a leather goods manufacturer from Turkey. The bags of the Istanbul label have a minimalist and sculptural look and are characterised by clear lines and intense colours. Most Manu Atelier bags are made of leather, some models contain hand-woven fabrics in a summery raffia look. The arrow-like metal logo is a stylised combination of the letters M and A. Manu Atelier bags fuse classic design principles, geometric shapes and maximum functionality. The brand attaches great importance to timeless cuts and high-quality workmanship so that your new Manu Atelier bag becomes a lifelong companion. In addition to new models, the trend label keeps styles that have already been produced in its range and regularly gives them small updates. This emphasises the up-to-date character of Manu Atelier bags and the sustainability approach of the family-run company from Istanbul.
Traditional craftsmanship meets modern design – Manu Atelier
Whether handbags, shoulder bags or hobo bags, all Manu Atelier bags are made using traditional techniques. The production of a Manu Atelier bag begins with the creation of a paper pattern. Once this has been optimised and meets all requirements, the leather is cut by hand. The finishing touches, such as preparing the leather edges, are also done by hand. The Manu Atelier bag is then sewn by machine. This manufacturing method minimises waste and ensures very high product quality. It also allows for unconventional shapes that immediately catch the eye and give the Manu Atelier bags their very special look.
Pristine: The signature bag by Manu Atelier
Rectangular, high-format and with a pointed envelope cap, the Manu Atelier Pristine is reminiscent of a classic binocular bag and is one of the first models of the young label. The striking design is based on the ideas of the two founders' father, who opened a leather goods atelier in Istanbul back in the 1970s. That's why the bag has a futuristic look with a retro charm. The Manu Atelier Pristine became a bestseller within a very short time. The standard version is made of vegetable-tanned calfskin: the new interpretations trump with exciting material mixes, for example, cotton and leather. The Manu Atelier Pristine closes with a magnetic clasp and has an adjustable strap so that it can be styled in several ways: crossbody or over the shoulder. Newer models with a chain strap cannot be adjusted and are worn as a classic shoulder bag. Another special feature of fresh Pristine variants: Colour-blocking effects through contrasting shoulder straps or bag bodies. The popular Manu Atelier bag was included in the "Bags Inside Out" exhibition at London's Albert Museum. This comprises iconic bags of the last century and features models from the most fashionable labels – and now also a bag from the Instanbul-based newcomer brand!
It-brand almost overnight: the story of Manu Atelier
Two sisters, one passion: the brand Manu Atelier was founded in 2014 by Beste and Merve Manastir. As daughters of one of Istanbul's oldest leather goods manufacturers, they grew up with the enthusiasm for the traditional craftsmanship of their father and wanted to present his talent to the whole world. It was important to the two founders to bridge the gap between traditional manufacturing and modern aesthetics. They also built on an affordable price policy to close the distance between very expensive luxury bags and cheap street style models. The concept of affordable luxury paid off: social media also contributed to the success of the Turkish label. After a few posts by well-known influencers, it achieved high international recognition just one year after the launch. As an established brand, Manu Atelier focuses on sustainability. The company relies on vegetable-tanned leather – and that from the very beginning. The sustainable goals of the young brand include increasing the use of leftover materials and a strict minimum waste approach in the production factories.
