Vargu stands for "Variations & Arguments". The name is also a German acronym i.e. it involves several label-typical characteristics, such as ecologically and socially responsible production, recycled materials and good protection against rain, theft and empty batteries. The latter is possible thanks to an integrated USB port. Most Vargu backpacks are equipped with an external USB port and a cable. This leads to the inside of the bag, where you can store and charge your smartphone. Vargu backpacks impress with their dynamic look, versatile colours and smart design with lots of technical details.
Vargu backpacks unite functionality and sustainability
All everyday companions from the Vargu assortment trump with durable, hard-wearing materials, high-quality zippers and a reflective logo print. Most Vargu backpacks are equipped with particularly tear-resistant nylon straps that can easily withstand a tensile load of 150 kg. The signature feature par excellence: the built-in USB port. Apart from that, a breathable back padding and wide, ergonomic shoulder straps are also typical. Many models are equipped with a height-adjustable roll top closure, including the Roll-x. This USB backpack features not only flexible volume expansion but also a waterproof outer material and a padded gadget compartment for devices up to 15 inches in size. Other advantages include a secret valuables pocket and an anti-theft system with an additional zipper on the inside. The Foldo-x backpack also has a roll-top closure. It impresses with fastening loops on the front and quick access to the main compartment.
The Turtle-x goes or rather creeps a step further and combines the advantages of a rain jacket with those of a backpack. The integrated rain hood disappears inside the special compartment when not in use (similar to a turtle disappearing in its shell), but is quickly at hand when it rains – this is especially interesting for cyclists! Furthermore, this Vargu rucksack is equipped with a practical trolley strap, adjustable chest belt and padded carrying loop. The trolley loop is a typical feature of all Vargu business or travel backpacks: some models have a hidden compartment for valuables under it. The office-suitable Vargu backpack usually has pen loops and a separate laptop compartment with an attached tablet sleeve. Every Vargu rucksack is usually lined with robust material made from recycled PET bottles. It normally glows in bright red: Against this background, things can be recognized faster – and are easier to grab. Vargu combines well-thought-out technical features and sustainable materials in every backpack. The result: urban all-rounders with practical design and a green attitude!
The Swiss label Vargu was founded by Reinhard Margelisch in 2007. From the beginning, the companies philosophy has been based on four principles: functional design, economic efficiency in the entire value chain, as well as ecological and social responsibility. Short transport ways, avoiding plastic covers and filling material, rucksack linings made of recycled PET bottles and the utilisation of used safety belts from the automotive industry are only a few examples of the sustainable production methods of Vargu. The brand uses animal-free materials: every vegan Vargu rucksack is produced under fair conditions.
I constantly combine the practical with the formal, not following any usual rules for materials. My design attempts to focus on people and their diverse needs. These range from functional, to aesthetic and ethical demands. My work cannot follow existing solutions only, it has to interact with the user to find new and innovative concepts. VARGU products provide functionality, form and function and are made for urban life. Reinhard Margelisch, founder of Vargu
